at the Junction of Bay of bengal and Andaman sea.Mainly there is two island groups Andaman island group and Nicobor island group.
The territory's capital is the city of Port Blair. The total land area of the islands is approximately 8,249 km2 (3,185 sq mi). The territory is divided into three districts: the Nicobar District with Car Nicobar as its capital, the South Andaman district with Port Blair as its capital, and the North and Middle Andaman district with Mayabunder as its capital.
The Andaman Islands are also home to the Sentinelese people, an uncontacted tribe. The Sentinelese might be the only people currently known to not have reached further than a Paleolithic level of technology;[10] however, this is disputed, as evidence of metalwork was found on their island.
On 26 December 2004, the coasts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands were devastated by a 10 m (33 ft) high tsunami following an undersea earthquake in the Indian Ocean. A significant portion of the union territory was submerged and subsequently lost to sea. The territory which measured 8,073 km2 (3,117 sq mi) before the tsunami now stands at 7,950 km2 (3,070 sq mi)
Most of the islands are surrounded by Fringeing reefs on their eastern side and barrier reefs on the western side.
Andaman started as a british Penal colony during the Brisith Rule in India to penalise Indians who rebeled against the Brisith empaire for Indias fight to its freedome.
our great freedome fighters spend months and years at the Cellular Jail or Kala Pani that used to be called.
Though Port blair is now well developed tourist place, with an interntional airport conneted to Mainy cities of India but By the 1850s when they first came into sustained contact by outside groups, the indigenous people of Andamans were: the Great Andamanese, who collectively represented at least 10 distinct sub groups and languages; the Jarawa: the jungle (or Rutland Jarawa); the Onge; and the Sentinelese (the most isolated of all the groups).
The indigenous peoples of the Nicobars (unrelated to the Andamanese) have a similarly isolated and lengthy association with the islands.
There are two main groups: the Nicobarese, or Nicobari living throughout many of the islands; and the Shompen, restricted to the interior of Great Nicobar.
